"In April 2013 a small team of cast, caterers & crew of extremely talented, generous and eager guerrilla film-makers gave up their long Easter weekend and came to the house of an 80 year old Samoan grandma, commonly known as ’Ma’, to film her self titled story.
Just over 3 years on, MA short film has screened at International Film Festivals around the world including Hawai’i, LA, Toronto, Tahiti, Tonga, Australia, France, Canada and New Zealand.
This independent film has taken Ma to places she never knew existed. She’s met people who instantly fell in love with her and her story. It’s opened up a world that has shown her that her story, and the stories of all of our senior citizens, our indigenous communities, Pacific stories, and the stories of women and their struggles, are stories that are important for every generation to experience and understand.
Thank you to all of you who have supported our journey and the journeys of all the film-makers in our wonderful industry here in New Zealand, the Pacific, and around the world.
We hope you enjoy the film as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you. Here’s to all of the mothers and grandmothers.
